Tiled Words is joining Blue Ox Family Games (and so am I!)

I’ve got exciting news! Tiled Words is being acquired by Blue Ox Family Games. I’m also joining Blue Ox to help them revamp their website, bring their beloved mobile games to the web, and integrate Tiled Words into their platform.

Blue Ox has been making daily word games for over 15 years, and I think they're going to be a great home for Tiled Words long-term.

What does this mean for Tiled Words players?

Nothing is changing today. You'll be able to play Tiled Words puzzles every day at the same site you always have.

Around mid-September Blue Ox’s puzzle writers will start writing the Tiled Words puzzles. Their talented team has been doing this for over 15 years and have written over 50,000 puzzles. I’ll be working with them as they get up to speed to maintain the style, character, and difficulty of the current puzzles. But I’m also excited to see how they put their own spin on the format. (When they start writing puzzles, the author and editor will be displayed so you know who wrote it.)

This is a big change but it’s the right move for Tiled Words. My wife and I enjoy writing the puzzles, but writing a puzzle every day is a lot of work on top of our day jobs and raising a baby. We’ve written a puzzle a day for over 300 days now and are losing steam. Blue Ox has the time and resources to keep Tiled Words going for the long-haul, which we can’t do on our own.

In the long term, Tiled Words will be integrated into a puzzle platform Blue Ox is building including 7 Little Words, Tiny Little Crosswords, Red Herring, Monkey Wrench, and more. I’ll be helping to build out this platform and ensure it’s a great place to play games.

FAQs

What is the timeline?

Blue Ox will start writing puzzles in mid-September. There is not a timeline yet for fully integrating into their platform. I will provide another update before that happens.

Will I be able to keep my progress and account?

We will figure out a way to move your progress from Tiled Words to the new platform. It will likely require you to make a Tiled Words account (if you haven’t already) before the integration is complete. I will share an update before that happens.

Will you still be working on the game?

I will be helping to integrate and maintain Tiled Words and helping to ensure it stays a great experience.

Will you be writing puzzles?

Blue Ox’s team of puzzle writers will be taking over. Lisa and I may write a guest puzzle occasionally for old time’s sake.

Will the puzzles still be good?

Yes! Blue Ox’s team has over 15 years of experience writing puzzles and I’ll be working with them during the transition to ensure the puzzles maintain their character
